This is what I told my mastermind group less than a decade ago.
Back then, I had a childcare business. It was doing ok, but it wasn’t really going where I wanted it to go. I wasn’t really sure where I was taking it long-term.
But I knew what I wanted. That unnecessarily big house with a huge pool.
Fast forward to today and I have my dream house (you should see the pool!) oodles of family time and the financial freedom to spend my days doing what I want.
I sold my Childcare business in 2019 for several million pounds. I grew it from scratch to a multi-site, multi-million-pound revenue business across the South East.
When the time came to hand over the keys, it was a huge moment. Looking back and joining the dots, I realise that…
Getting help from the right people was an unmistakable factor in helping me achieve my goal.
Sure, I did the work. I was the one who hired, fired, negotiated leases, grappled with HMRC, handled financing, and everything in between.
But without the support of my mentor and my “business” friends, I wouldn’t have gone so far, so fast.
They lifted me when I needed it, celebrated successes, and helped me navigate wave after wave of challenges.
If you ask any other successful people, they’d tell you the same. Your tribe is your vibe!
Having the right people onboard was life-changing for me. And it’s why I now spend some of my free time coaching and mentoring other business owners.
When I sold my business in 2019 in that multi-million-pound deal, I thought I was done.
That was it.

From then on, I saw my days consisting of traveling, sipping mocktails by the pool, and basking in the success from those years of hard work.
But – for anyone who knows me – that really isn’t me.
My ‘retirement’ lasted six weeks.
I was itching to get back, to do it all again. Why? Because I absolutely love it.

In 2023, I went back into the sector I love – Childcare. Polka Dot Farm Nursery opened in November 2023 and at the time of launching this website (just 20 weeks after opening) we are set to exceed £2m in turnover with an EBITDA of £1million – I know how to do childcare!
I say it not to impress you, but to impress upon you – done well, Childcare can be a fantastic business.
We have had zero staffing issues – because we were innovate in our approach to recruitment.
We have been full since 6 weeks after we opened – because of a well crafted and well delivered marketing campaign.
We have been operationally excellent – because of the processes put into place.
There is so much pain in the childcare sector right now.
I genuinely don’t think that it needs to be like that.
